The consistently high average opinion (4.4/5) reflects the positive experiences of many customers. Many appreciate the friendly and helpful staff. One customer, visiting on vacation, highlighted the exceptional assistance they received in finding travel-friendly craft projects. This suggests a willingness among the staff to go above and beyond to help customers, regardless of their familiarity with the store. The staff's helpfulness is a recurring theme in positive reviews.

However, some customers have expressed concerns regarding the store's self-checkout system, noting that it can be unreliable. This sentiment is not uncommon, as many retailers are transitioning to self-checkout options. The availability of a nearby Hobby Lobby previously offered an alternative for those who preferred a different checkout experience, though the absence of a Hobby Lobby in Johnstown means Michael's is often the primary option for many craft enthusiasts. The store’s overall reputation, however, remains strong, with the positive aspects – such as friendly staff and a wide selection – outweighing the occasional issues with self-checkout.
